Building the “Sport Aurora Collection”
The Mission Statements of the Aurora Sport Hall of Fame is clear with respect to the importance of collecting significant articles of sport history.
They are presented below:
- Collect, store and display sport artifacts that represent the Inductees participation in sport as well as other worthy events and sport activities related to sport in the Town.
- To honour, celebrate, preserve and share the outstanding contributions of those who have brought recognition to Aurora through sport.
- To publicize and share sport history within and outside the Town.
To accomplish this Mission, a Sub-Committee of the Board has been created, made up of knowledgeable and skilled professionals, and have developed the accessioning policies and processes for the collection, restoration, display and storage of significant articles of sport memorabilia that has historical value. These policies and processes are to be publicized in advance of the first Induction of Members to the Aurora Sport Hall of Fame in November, 2013.
The Curator of the Aurora Sports Hall of Fame is Catherine Richards. The collection of sport history will be known as the “Sport Aurora Collection” and will be physically displayed at the Aurora Sport Hall of Fame site in the Town Hall of Aurora, as well as virtually displayed on the future Aurora Sport Hall of Fame web site.
Items of interest, photographs and stories about Aurora’s Sport History are encouraged and accepted subject to the Sport Hall of Fame Policies and are displayed and celebrated according to those Policies.
The Sport Aurora Collection will grow as significant artifacts are identified and acquired.
