Learn about the nomination process and how to nominate someone to the Aurora Sports Hall of Fame in one of five categories.

The Nomination Process

We’re always accepting nominations to ASHoF!

Nominations for induction into the Aurora Sports Hall of Fame are accepted annually — the deadline for submissions each year is on or before April 1, 11:59 pm ET. Nominations can be submitted for individuals in the following categories:

  • Athlete
  • Coach
  • Builder / Contributor
  • Teams (two or more individuals)
  • Media

Nomination submissions must include:

  1. A completed nomination form. Fill out the form below, or if you prefer, download the current form as a PDF: 2026 ASHoF Induction Nomination Form.
  2. A narrative (typewritten, 1000-word maximum) describing the nominee’s achievements, awards, impact on their category, and community involvement.
  3. Scanned copies of media articles, links to videos, feature stories, and scanned photos.
  4. Between 3–5 letters of recommendation from various sources attesting to the nominee’s character and integrity.

Please note:

  • Any organization or individual may submit a nomination form to the Aurora Sports Hall of Fame.
  • Eligible nominees not selected for induction in their first submission year will be considered for up to two additional induction terms.
  • The nominator is responsible for verifying the information provided. Verification may also be sought from nominees if required.
  • Successful inductees will be notified by the Aurora Sports Hall of Fame.
  • Upon notification, inductees will be asked to provide additional information, including personal autobiographical details and photos.
  • Successful inductees will be publicly announced in June and celebrated at the Annual Induction Celebration Evening in November.

Nominations for 2026 are now open!

The mandate of the Aurora Sports Hall of Fame is to acknowledge the significant and exceptional achievements and contribution to our sports heritage and culture within the Town of Aurora.

A recipient must have one of or all connections to Aurora as defined by the following criteria:

  • Was born in Aurora; OR
  • Maintained residency in Aurora for five consecutive or non-consecutive years; OR
  • Was raised or spent their favourite years in Aurora; OR
  • Achieved their athletic prominence in Aurora; OR
  • Made their contributions to athletics and the sports culture in Aurora.

The Aurora Sports Hall of Fame Board of Governors values the qualities of upstanding character and sportsmanship and reserves the right to reject nominations based on moral, criminal or ethical grounds.

Nomination criteria for athletes

The athlete’s sport must have a corresponding Provincial / National Governing Sport Body in Canada.

The nominee must have:

  1. demonstrated outstanding achievement in their athletic field of endeavour;
    OR
  2. brought honour and fostered pride in the Town of Aurora through their athletic achievements.

An athlete must have been out of competition in their acknowledged sports for which they are being nominated for a minimum of three years. Competition may be at the local, regional, provincial, national, international or professional level.

Nomination criteria for coaches

The coach’s sport must have a corresponding Provincial / National Governing Sport Body in Canada.

The nominee must have:

  1. made a major contribution to the development and advancement of sport locally, provincially, nationally or internationally.
  2. compiled an outstanding career of coaching / managing championship teams and / or athletes.

A coach must have been out of competition in their acknowledged sport for a minimum of three years or be over 45 years of age.

Nomination criteria for builders / contributors

A nominee must have demonstrated outstanding service to the sporting culture community of Aurora over a period of years in sports via:

  1. Contribution to sport in Aurora through philanthropy and / or leadership; OR
  2. Having been active in any capacity serving sport, such as: trainer, administrator, official / referee, sports medicine, or manager; OR
  3. Having made a significant financial contribution to the building of sport infrastructure in the Town of Aurora.

Nomination criteria for teams (two ore more individuals)

A team which we define as two or more individuals must have:

  1. Achieved notable success, such as winning championships, tournaments, setting records in their sport, either nationally or internationally.
  2. Consistent excellence and longevity in performance will be considered.
  3. Must have made a meaningful contribution to the local sports culture, inspiring future athletes and teams. Their involvement should have advanced the development or promotion of their sport within the community.
  4. Demonstrated fairness, integrity, and respect for opponents, officials, and the rules of the game. Positive character and teamwork displayed by its members are essential qualities.
  5. The team’s achievements should have brought pride and recognition to the Town of Aurora. Their influence and legacy should continue to inspire and be remembered as a significant part of Aurora’s sports culture & history.

Nomination criteria for media

A nominee must have demonstrated exceptional contributions to Aurora’s sporting community through their work in media either locally, nationally, or internationally by:

  1. Enhancing the visibility and celebration of sports in Aurora or the community of Aurora through storytelling, journalism, broadcasting, or digital media; OR
  2. Promoting local athletes, teams, and sports organizations, thereby fostering community engagement and pride; OR
  3. Advocating for and advancing the development of sports culture in Aurora through impactful media coverage or campaigns.
  4. The nominee has consistently demonstrated exceptional skill, professionalism, and creativity in covering sports, either in Aurora, nationally or internationally, setting a standard of excellence that has inspired others in the media industry. OR
  5. The nominee has significantly contributed to increasing public awareness and participation in Aurora’s sports events and activities through compelling media content, such as articles, broadcasts, photography, or videos.

SPECIAL NOTES

  1. All nominees who meet the eligibility criteria but are not selected for induction into the Aurora Sports Hall of Fame will remain on file for future consideration. Nominators are encouraged to provide additional information to enhance the application and strengthen its chances in subsequent reviews.
  2. All applications for nominees being submitted posthumously must have the consent of a family representative, who must also approve the nominator to submit the application on the individual’s behalf.
  3. All nominees must be willing to participate in media interviews, photo sessions, community events, pre-induction meetings, event walkthroughs, and other related activities. They will also be required to provide selected artifacts for the Aurora Sports Hall of Fame’s Curation Team, a high-resolution image for their portrait sketch, and any additional materials as requested.
  4. Verification of information may be sought from nominees slated for induction. The successful inductees will be notified by the Aurora Sports Hall of Fame.
