The Aurora Sports Hall of Fame (ASHoF) is a celebration of sport history and excellence, recognizing sport’s important place in Aurora. It is both a physical and virtual place of history, to stimulate pride in our community’s accomplishments.

It is a place of education, with more than 90 artifacts to showcase how far our Inductees have come. It is a place of community, where young and old can gather to appreciate Aurora’s rich culture and heritage.

To date, we have inducted 38 outstanding athletes, coaches and builders including such people like; Mike Kitchen, Mike Palmateer, Mike Murphy, Cal Bouchard, Paolina Allan, Brian Stemmle, Frank Stronach, Alan Dean, Ryan & Dave Gardner, and Karen Stemmle.

Our Story

In 2011 the newly incorporated Sport Aurora, now with 27 Member Organizations, included the development of a Sports Hall of Fame as a priority within their Strategic Plan. An Aurora Sports Hall of Fame Organizing Committee was formed that included a variety of stakeholders with the objective to research this possibility.

In November 2012 a Feasibility Study was completed and refined for submission to the Ontario Trillium Foundation in July of 2013. In November of that year, just days after the first successful Induction Celebration Dinner was organized, a Grant in the amount of $192,500.00 over three years was awarded.

The ASHoF Organizing Committee made a recommendation to Sport Aurora that the ASHoF become incorporated as a stand-alone entity and asked that a Board of Governors be appointed from the stakeholders.

Although an independent organization with a Board of Governors, By-Laws, Constitution and an official Charity, the relationship with Sport Aurora as a collaborative partner continues. Three of the Board of Governors members are appointed by Sport Aurora as their representatives. ASHoF is operated by numerous volunteers with the assistance of our partners at the Town of Aurora
