Grade nine student Kalia Vieira has been a welcome addition to the Cardinal Carter community this school year.
Through her hard work this past summer, Kalia improved her skills on the tennis court and, to her credit, forged her way to the semi-finals of the York Region Athletic Association (YRAA) tennis championship in the fall. She’s been applying herself to the sport of tennis since the age of five and she clearly has a passion for the sport with an eye towards further improving her skill set on the court.
Staff members in the physical education department at the school credit Kalia’s early success with the Celtics to her discipline, her willingness to learn and her extremely strong work ethic. This exceptional student-athlete is also described as a serious and mature student who leads by example amongst her peers. A lot of her early success in athletics and academics can be attributed to her humility and excellent communication skills according to the Cardinal Carter staff.
Kalia remains active by playing Club Tennis and she enjoys providing youth tennis lessons alongside her coach in the summer. Although tennis is her sport of choice, Kalia has also tried her hand at the 100-metre relay and 200-metre sprints. She also finds enjoyment by devoting significant volunteer hours locally at the Light of Christ Elementary School.
Kalia is an Honour Roll student and her aspiration currently is to study Veterinary Medicine at the University of Guelph in the future.
Kalia emigrated from South Africa and resides in Aurora.
Congratulations, Kalia!
