Jonathan Qin is a standout student-athlete whose contributions extend far beyond the playing field. A graduating senior at Cardinal Carter, Jonathan has participated in an impressive range of sports throughout high school, including track & field, ultimate frisbee, volleyball, flag football, basketball, and badminton. His versatility is matched by his character: Jonathan is a respected leader known for his humility, composure, and quiet determination.
On the field, Jonathan is a coach’s dream—skilled, hardworking, inclusive, and driven. He consistently demonstrates heart and perseverance in every practice and competition. He’s also a mentor to younger athletes, often leading drills and teaching techniques with patience and clarity. His leadership is just as impactful off the field. Whether guiding younger students on overnight trips to Muskoka Woods or serving as a calm and focused role model in the classroom, Jonathan leads by example with integrity and kindness.
This spring, Jonathan’s athletic abilities shone brightly as the top male javelin thrower at the school. This qualified him for the OFSAA Central Regional Track & Field Meet in late May where he placed fifth. While basketball is his favourite sport to play, he has clearly found a true talent in track & field, particularly in javelin.
A dedicated student and community member, Jonathan works as a lifeguard and swimming instructor at the Zancor Centre and serves as an altar boy at Our Lady of Grace Church. His favourite athlete is Kobe Bryant—an inspiration reflected in Jonathan’s quiet intensity and unrelenting work ethic. His favourite musical artist is Frank Ocean.
Jonathan’s positive influence, leadership, and faith have earned him Cardinal Carter’s highest honour: the 2025 Dave Brennan Christian Athlete of the Year Award, presented annually to one graduating student. This fall, Jonathan will attend the University of Guelph, where his leadership and character will no doubt continue to flourish.
Congratulations, Jonathan!
