Grace & Bridget Malcolm

St. Maximilian Kolbe Catholic High School

The Malcolm sisters have taken the St. Maximilian Kolbe Mustangs’ running teams by storm in the 2024-25 school year. Bridget and Grace can be counted upon to give it their absolute best when they lace up and set their mind to it, which is just about all of the time.

According to their school coaches, the twins demonstrate resilience, perseverance and determination in their cross country and track and field pursuits. Both take pride in their willingness to lend a helping hand to anyone on the team who needs assistance. The strong team players always make the effort to ensure that everyone feels included. The same can be said about their approach towards their grade 10 studies in the classroom. Both are extremely proud of their 93% average at St. Maximilian.

Bridget and Grace made their presence felt in November at the 2024 OFSAA Cross Country Championship, held in rainy and muddy conditions at Mooney’s Bay and the Terry Fox Athletic Facility in Ottawa. In the Junior Girls’ five-kilometre race, Grace powered her way to a sixth-place finish with a time of 19:31 while Bridget’s time of 19:47 secured her a ninth place showing against the province’s best. The sisters and their teammates were convincing Junior Girls Overall Team Champions and the team staked their claim to the OFSAA championship banner for the high school.

Soon, both will have their sights set on qualifying in the 1500m and 3000m race categories at the upcoming OFSAA Track & Field Championship in June. The Aurora residents will continue to train twice a week at the Newmarket Huskies Running Club.

Both Bridget and Grace expressed an early potential interest in physiotherapy for their academic path following high school and their teacher-coaches feel they are doing an exceptional job of balancing their school work and athletics.

The twins have three older sisters and when it comes to preparing for a race, Grace and Bridget both enjoy the music of artists Taylor Swift and SZA.

Best of luck and congratulations on behalf of the Aurora Sports Hall of Fame!
