Cohen Bugeja approaches all of his endeavours with enthusiasm, dedication and the ability to lead others to success. The Grade 11 student-athlete is an extremely active and versatile participant at his high school and within the Aurora community.
Cohen has played a key role as an instrumental teammate on the G.W. Williams’ rugby and varsity hockey teams while striving for personal achievement on the school’s cross country and track and field squads. While managing his academic and school sport responsibilities, Cohen also excels in hockey with the Double AA U18 Aurora Tigers and he also plays house league soccer.
Cohen is hopeful that the success of the school’s hockey team to this point will lead to a playoff berth this year. He counts the Grade 10 experiences of qualifying for OFSAA Cross Country and taking up rugby as fun and rewarding commitments thus far in his high school athletic career. His efforts resulted in being named “Junior Athlete of the Year” this past June.
Kevin Julyan, the Physical Education Department Head at the school, stated, “Cohen’s leadership extends beyond sports. His involvement in both academic and extra-curricular activities showcases his ability to bring people together for a common goal. His positive attitude, strong work ethic, and willingness to collaborate make him not just a standout athlete but also a role model for his peers.”
Cohen works for the Town of Aurora as a lifeguard and as a teaching instructor. In the future, Cohen is considering a potential degree in Health Sciences and remaining active in athletics at his post-secondary school.
He describes himself as a hard-working and respectful person. The Honour Roll student is to be commended for working hard at balancing his work, extra-curricular activities and sports pursuits. Congratulations, Cohen!
