Aurora Sports Hall of Fame announces the Moments in Sport Campaign June 27, 2017

Aurora, ON, June 26, 2017 – In honour of Canada’s 150th Celebration, the Aurora Sports Hall of Fame (ASHoF) is launching a “Moments in Sport” public outreach campaign to uncover sporting moments that have occurred in Aurora or by residents of Aurora in order to showcase Aurora’s extensive sport heritage and to identify when, how and why sport came to Canada and Aurora.

These stories can be from any time period or perspective; whether you were the athlete participating, or experienced the moment from the sidelines, or had it handed down to you from your ancestors, your story is important!

In association with the Aurora Museum and Archives, ASHoF wants to create a database of Aurora Moments in Sport to capture as much of the town’s vibrant sport history as possible. ASHOF will also research and collect sport moments and stories from other sources.

“It’s exciting to imagine what the final product could possibly look like; a searchable database, a timeline of sports highlights from Aurora’s history displayed on a wall and/or website, or an interactive board at the Hall of Fame,” says Bob McRoberts, ASHoF Collection & Exhibition Chair. “For now, we are hoping for an abundance of sport highlights to be submitted before the deadline.”

The top 20 Moments in Sport will be revealed at the 2017 ASHoF Induction Dinner on November 8th at St. Andrew’s College. A timeline collection of Moments in Sport will also be created and displayed in the future.

“I can’t wait until we start getting stories from the public,” says Nancy Black, ASHoF Executive Director. “Over the last couple of years during our Induction Dinner, I’ve had so many people tell me great sport stories, but now we are actually going to gather them and share them. It will be amazing and interesting to have these stories come to life.”

The Moments in Sport kick off will be at Town Park on June 30th at 4:00 pm at the Armoury to coincide with the Canada 150 Celebrations. Submissions may be submitted on the ASHoF website, or emailed to: ashofhistory@gmail.com or mail the form to Aurora Sports Hall of Fame Moments in Sport c/o Town Hall, 3rd Floor, 100 John West Way, Aurora ON L4G 6J1

Deadlines for submissions of your sporting moments is September 30, 2017.
