Travis Romagnoli

Gymnastics, USA

While at the University of Illinois, Travis competed regularly at the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Championships and had three third place finishes, three second place finishes, and was a two-time National Champion in a variety of events, including Vault, All-Around, Parallel Bars, Horizontal Bar, and Team Competition. Rather than the typical medal on a ribbon lanyard, these plaques indicate the place finishes of competitors. Travis explains their significance:

“Each plaque (except the Team Award) represents an NCAA All-American honour (a top 6-finish in an event at an NCAA Championships).”

Object #

Wooden base and stand with either gold, silver, bronze or coloured metal individual plaques affixed. Each award has three separate metal plaques. A rectangular one appears on the base and indicates the year, competition, event and place. Another circular plaque appears on the upright board and shows a graphic gymnast inverted on either the floor or a pommel horse. Above that is a circular NCAA plaque with two laurels surrounding it. The colour of the three plaques attached to the wooden base is determined by the place the athlete achieved in the competition.
