2018 Aurora Sports Hall of Fame Inductee visits Heritage Fair February 1, 2019

Aurora, ON, February 1, 2019 – Aurora Sports Hall of Fame 2018 Inductee and Honoured Member, Bob Bain joined York Region District School Board’s 3rd Annual Heritage Fair event held at the Stronach Arena Recreation Centre (SARC).

Mr. Bain was honoured to be the closing keynote address speaking to over 100 students about the importance of sport in Canadian society and the central role of the coach as a role model and agent of socialization.

“It was a pleasure speaking at the Heritage Fair, in particular focusing on the key role of the coach. It is my belief that the “coach ” has a tremendous responsibility to be a leader not only in technical knowledge, but with a sound knowledge of the development needs of those being coached. Coaches in our country have opportunities to learn these skills through the National Coaching Certificate Program. I hope I encouraged those young people in attendance to consider coaching as a vocation or a volunteer activity. “

The Heritage Fair is a celebration of the York Region District School Board grades 7 to 10 students who have engaged in historical inquiry to explore stories of our diverse population. As part of the fair, students explored the Aurora Sports Hall of Fame exhibit including displays of their latest Inductees and participating in a fun scavenger hunt. The program is a collaboration with the Aurora Museum & Archives.

“I have been honoured by being inducted to the Aurora Sports Hall of Fame, and I would like to believe one of the reasons for this are that my coaching behaviours reflected those values” added Bain.

In a few weeks, the Aurora Sports Hall of Fame will announce the roster of 2019 Inductees.
