Community Supports Aurora Sports Hall of Fame October 26, 2015

The 3rd Annual Induction Ceremony is taking place on November 4th and the Hall of Fame is grateful to the community for its support.

As it was in its first two years, the event is likely to be sold out – that means that more than 250 sport and history enthusiasts will come together to hear and see the stories of our sport heroes. Many of those people have contributed to the “Friends of the Hall” campaign, which encourages individuals to contribute to the Hall and to be memorialized in the Hall. The Sport Community has also been included in the process in a very positive way. Sport organizations that contribute to the Hall will be recognized as “Sport Champions” with an impressive plaque that is to be erected in the Hall.

The business community has graciously come together for the event – Inductee Presenting Sponsors are linked to individual inductees so as to help defray the cost of having those inductees celebrate their big night with us.

This year, besides hosting the event on their magnificent properties, St. Andrew’s College (a Charter Donor of the Hall of Fame) put their support behind the Media Category/Local inductee Lowell McClenny. In his role as host of the local TV program SportsBeat, Mr. McClenny likely interviewed half of the dinner attendees.

Storm Volleyball, home to Honoured Member Bruce Stafford, immediately confirmed its support of Mark Heese who is being inducted in the Athlete category for his dominance and accomplishments in beach volleyball.

Sinclair-Cockburn Financial Services promptly secured their support for Mr. Kenneth Sinclair who will be inducted in the Builder/Contributor category for his outstanding work developing tennis in this community.

Rounding out the support at this level is PACE Credit Union, also one of the Hall’s Charter Donors. Mr. Alan Dean is being inducted in the Builder/Contributor category for his exceptional and long-standing contributions to sports for the disabled. PACE Credit asked that funds be used in a meaningful way and supporting Mr. Dean’s induction fits the bill.

For the Induction Dinner itself, other Community partners joined the fray: Highland Automotive Professionals, who have been presenting sponsors previously, offered to host the VIP Reception which is being held before the dinner – this special area will bring together Inductees and their families, with 2013 and 2014 Honoured Members and guests.

The Rotary Club of Aurora, one of the original supporters of this event, is doubling down on their support by sponsoring the November 3rd Meet & Greet (being held at Aw Shucks) and by being the dinner Wine Sponsor. The Rotary Club has a wonderful reputation in this community for their support of important causes.

Since no sports evening is complete without people going home with awards, Nothers Signs & Recognition have come forward again for the third year, this time as our Awards Sponsor. Their inductee plaques, including the ones that hang in our Hall, are an exceptional tribute to our Honoured Members.

Funds that are provided through our event sponsorship help the Hall create a spectacular evening for the Inductees and attendees. Funds donated through the Aurora Sports Hall of Fame’s Cornerstone Campaigns help build and maintain the Hall’s public presence, including both the physical location and the enhanced website. Those funds also help support Education programs, help the Hall create celebratory displays and help maintain the assets of the Hall. The Hall is grateful to its Charter Sponsors – the Ontario Trillium Foundation, PACE Credit Union, St. Andrew’s College, the Mayor’s Charity Golf Classic, Seneca College, Magna International and the Town of Aurora.

It really does takes a town to raise a Hall of Fame.
