Thompson brought back two silver medals from the 1979 Pan American Games in Puerto Rico for the 100m medley relay and 100m butterfly. This is the medal he won in the 100m butterfly and recalls, “the race was outdoors and it was a beautiful evening- I just got touched out!”

Description
A silver medal attached to a multi-coloured (purple, cyan, white, yellow and green) ribbon. The medal is a circle. On the front, there is a man running and holding a torch. The front of the medal reads “VIII Juegos Pan Americanos”. On the reverse side, there is a torch with a decorative circle around it. The reverse side of the medal reads “Puerto Rico 1979”.
